This is such a pretty pastry to make and looks fabulous on the Christmas table. You can even put them in cellophane bags and hang them on the Christmas tree or give them to friends and family as Christmas gifts. This Nutella Christmas Trees recipe is also something that children can make with minimal supervision.
Ingredients:
Sheets of puff pastry from the supermarket
1 large jar of Nutella
Bamboo skewers
Method:
Spread out two sheets of pastry on the bench.
Spread the Nutella on one sheet using the back end of a spoon. This enables you to spread it around easily to get even coverage.
Carefully put the top sheet on top, starting to roll it on from the bottom.
Using a knife, cut the pastry into 4 cm strips.
Using the bamboo skewers, knit your way up the strip, folding the pastry over each time to create the branches of a tree. As you go up the strip, make the folders smaller each time.
Lay the trees on some baking paper and cook in the oven at 180°C for about 20 minutes or until they are brown and the pastry is cooked.
Let them cool and sprinkle with sifted icing sugar just before serving.
These can be made days ahead and kept very well in an airtight container. I found some Christmas skewers in Woolworths but had found that they changed colour in the oven, so I pulled out the normal skewer and replaced it with the Christmas one before serving. Decorating the top of the skewer just adds to the dish.
Enjoy baking – love Nana.
